Weimar honors Bernd Kauffmann with the highest cultural award!
Bernd Kauffmann, former President of the Weimar classic Foundation, was awarded the Weimar Prize, the highest cultural award in the city. This honor recognizes its key services to Weimar's spiritual and cultural reputation, as the city administration announced. The price, endowed with 5,000 euros, is awarded every two years and the ceremony took place in the concert hall of the Musikgymnasium Schloss Belvedere in Weimar.
Kauffmann, who acted as President and director of the Weimar Art Festival from 1992 to 2001, significantly shaped the city's cultural scene. In particular, he emphasized the importance of the inseparability of Weimar and Buchenwald as well as classical and concentration camps in the cultural memory of the city. This was particularly relevant in the cultural city year 1999, for which he acted as a general officer. The city underlined that its efforts to actively deal with the cultural heritage still have a noticeable impact on Weimar today, www.nmz.de .
