Blue disease devastes Wesermarsch: Farmers in need!

Tossens, Deutschland - The blue -tongue disease has overthrew the Wesermarsch into an economic crisis. Farmers record catastrophic losses after the virus BTV-3, transferred via mosquito bites, raged in cattle, goats and sheep. The dairy farms are particularly affected, where the milk yield has dropped drastically. A farmer reports a noticeable reduction of 20 percent in just two weeks. In addition, due to illnesses, many companies had to amputate much more claws than in the previous year, which increases the stress enormously.

The farmers are frustrated by the poor communication of the authorities, which has led to great uncertainty. Dr. Karsten Padeken, chairman of the district country, expresses criticism of the slow vaccination recommendation and the problem that only demonstrably vaccinated animals are compensated for deaths. In response to the emergency, the district's animal disease fund would like to introduce a hardship aid that pays out a flat rate of 200 euros per deceased cow, regardless of vaccination. The financial damage is immense scale, and farmers are faced with the ruins of their existence. Further information is to be found here .
