Fritz Jacob demands more support for Blexer Weserstein

Fritz Jacob, an active member of the village community in Blexen, is critical of the current cooperation with the city of Nordenham. The 88-year-old, who worked for the FDP in the city council in the past, is disappointed with the lack of support for the city in the initiatives to improve the city timing.

The importance of the Weserstein

in 2021 Jacob implemented the “Weserstein” project in cooperation with the village community. The 2.5 -ton stone stands on the Kiek Ut viewing platform, from where visitors can enjoy a breathtaking view of the Blexer Weserbogen and the Skyline Bremerhaven. Jacob has the goal of making this place known as an attractive destination for cyclists on the Weser cycle path and for other visitors. To achieve this, he believes that the city of Nordenham should advertise this location.

Attempts to improve visibility

In order to improve the findability of the viewing platform, Jacob planned the installation of signs. As early as May 2022, Jacob turned to the Mayor Nils Siemen (SPD) and asked for the attachment of four signs to strategic places such as the train station and the Blexer ferry. Unfortunately, there was still an answer from the town hall, which triggers great frustration at Jacob.

a frenzy potential

Another concern of Jacob was the installation of flag masts on the platform to visually represent the cities of Hanoversch, Nordenham and the state of Lower Saxony. After an on -site visit with the deputy head of administration Bert Freese, in whom Jacob was able to present his ideas, he received no clear commitment, but only the indication of contacting the responsible authorities. As is well known, these are very sensitive to interventions in the dike body.

The path is the goal

For the third anniversary of the Weserstein, Jacob has now come up with a new slogan: "Blexer Weserstein - the way is the goal". This advertising saying is intended to help increase the awareness of the landmark. Information about the history of this project is accessible on site via a QR code, whereby the original code was lost due to theft. A new QR code made from stone will soon be installed to offer the guests more information.

a joint challenge

Jacob emphasizes that his commitment not only applies to him, but above all the community in Blexen and the entire city of Nordenham. "It's about moving something for the region," he says. If the support of the city does not change, I could imagine giving up my activities, he adds frustrated.

This situation throws a light on the challenges with which locally committed citizens are confronted if their ideas meet for a lack of support from local administration. Fritz Jacob's experiences are an example of the possible obstacles that can occur in the development and promotion of community projects in small cities.
