Wies-O-Mat: Volt Wiesbaden introduces innovative election tool
New ways of voter orientation in Wiesbaden
In the political landscape in the Rhine-Main area, there is a remarkable trend that could affect many voters. Volt Wiesbaden has developed an innovative solution to actively involve citizens in the upcoming mayor election process-the so-called Wies-O-Mat.
The decision of Volt Wiesbaden
At a recent general meeting, it was announced that Volt Wiesbaden will not compete with its own candidate for the mayor election in 2025. This decision, according to Daniel Weber, Co-Local-Lead of Volt Wiesbaden, was not easy, especially after the success of the European elections, where the party received 5.5 percent of the vote.
The party members came to the conclusion together with the state board that the previous resources should be better used in an election campaign. "An election campaign requires a lot of money and time," said Weber. Instead, you want to get into the election debate in other ways through the Wies-O-Mat and thus support the voters.
How the Wies-O-Mat works
The principle of Wies-O-Mat is similar to the well-known Wahl-O-Mat, which many already know from previous elections. This online tool enables users to compare their political views with the positions of the available candidates. Special questions are formulated for this web application, which both the citizens and the candidates answer. The degree of agreement is determined based on the answers. "We believe that we create an important tool for the eligible voters in Wiesbaden," said Weber.
The positive experiences that Volt has had in cities such as Frankfurt and Mainz with similar projects play a crucial role in this initiative. The official Wahl-O-Mat also recently set new records in the number of users, which underlines the relevance of such offers.
Invitation to participate
volt Wiesbaden encourages citizens to contribute their ideas for the design of the Wies-O-Mat. Suggestions can be sent via social media such as Instagram and Facebook, or directly by email to wiesbaden@voltdeutschland.org. This openness to work is intended to ensure that a wide range of concerns are taken into account.
outlook for the future
Despite the waiver of its own candidacy for the OB election 2025, Volt Wiesbaden plans to get intensively involved in the 2026 local elections. Carina König, the state chair of Volt Hessen, emphasizes that the number of members has increased, which the party is very well prepared for future challenges. "We are already looking forward to the 2026 election campaign," says König.
These developments give the impression that the political participation can not only benefit the parties, but above all to the citizens themselves. The Wies-O-Mat seems to offer a promising opportunity to vote in Wiesbaden into a more informed and more responsive experience.
