WORMS: The impending increase in property tax is massive!

The city of Worms recently informed about impending tax increases in the course of the new property tax reform law, which will come into force from January 1, 2025. This reform leads to a taxation of the property based on the values ​​of January 1, 2022 and will bring significant changes for the city. A planned increase in property tax rate by 190 percentage points could be necessary to achieve a new amount of income - which means that the city wants to achieve consistent income, while owners of residential property have to pay significantly more.

According to the current calculations, the changeover of the tax measurement figures will result in a "shift in stress", in which almost 40 percent of the municipalities in Rhineland-Palatinate, including Worms, are affected by higher taxes. In particular, business properties lose value, which means that the financial burdens are mainly shifted to owners of residential properties. Despite these challenges, the state government has so far not found a solution to avoid this inequality, which could lead to potential increasing housing for citizens.
