Colorful and peaceful: First Christopher Street Day in Albstadt-Ebingen
On Friday, September 6th, Christopher Street Day (CSD) took place in Albstadt-Ebingen, who attracted hundreds of people. Festive colors and a positive mood shaped the event, while a counter -demonstration took place, which, however, did not pay attention to the same extent. The CSD was celebrated by the LGBTQIA+community as a demonstration for diversity and tolerance, which is a strong sign of acceptance and equality.
The event at the Bürgerturmplatz, which started at 6.30 p.m., recorded up to 400 participants, according to the police. While the mood was left out at the CSD celebration, the police had to maintain the mood in the city center and make sure that the counter-demonstrators who protested against the CSD in front of the town hall were kept away from the celebrants.
counter -demonstration and police operation
The counter-demonstrators carried slogans, who were directed against gender topics and gathered under the motto "No to the gender madness: protect children and future". The police had already taken measures in advance to ensure that both groups remain at a distance and that there are no major incidents. Nevertheless, there were reports of tensions when about 70 people demonstrated in front of the town hall.
The police maintained the distance between the two groups and accompanied the counter -demonstrators back to their starting point after the end of their meeting at 7.10 p.m. A participant who had been mutually faces a procedure for violating the meeting law.
However, this was not the only problem with which the police were confronted. At around 6 p.m., an unvited meeting, which was clearly drawn from the left political spectrum, had started in front of the train station in Ebingen. According to the police, this group of around 250 people was loud and caused some unrest in the city center. Therefore, the police became active on site.
incidents and medical emergencies
In the course of the police measures, there were several incidents, including the use of pepper spray, since individual people from the group became violent. A 24-year-old was injured when she tried to break through the police barriers and then brought to the ground. The injured was then taken to a hospital. A 19-year-old was also taken into custody because she resisted the identity assessment.
The police had the situation under control, even if some participants reported health problems, which required the use of additional rescue workers. The majority of the annoying group finally went to the train station to end the event. The police coordinated the entire situation, supported by the forces of the police headquarters and the federal police.
Overall, the Christopher Street Day was largely peaceful despite the opposite activities and thus represented an important step towards more visibility and acceptance of the LGBTQIA+community in the Zollernalbkreis. While the police ensured order, the participants of the CSD continued to celebrate their identity and demanded equality for everyone. The events on this day underline the challenges with which society is confronted when it comes to topics of diversity and tolerance.
