Safe way to school: Police are increasingly checks at the start of school

Baden-Baden is currently a scene of security-relevant initiatives, as the police are strengthening their presence with the beginning of the new school year and the beginners on the streets. In the area of responsibility of the Offenburg police headquarters, the civil servants are on their guard to ensure the so -called “safe way to school”. This is intended to make school for thousands of students more secure.

With special attention to the first weeks of school, the police carry out increased controls. Passers-by, police officers can regularly meet in the districts of Rastatt, Ortenaukreis and in the city district of Baden-Baden as part of this initiative. The focus is not only on traffic safety, but also on the preventive steering of behavior of road users.

statistical improvements in school traffic

In the past school year, a total of 30 school accidents were recorded, which is a gratifying decline compared to the 40 accidents of the previous year. Despite the positive development, in which 29 children were slightly injured and two serious injuries were complained about, the causes of the accident continue to alert. More than half of the accidents went back to self -inflicted behavior, which underlines the need to raise awareness of everyone involved.

The most common trigger for accidents include mistakes when turning and driving violations, while the behavior of drivers from pedestrians also has a significant influence. This illustrates the everyday dangers that children are exposed to on their way to school and shows that there is still a need for action.

In a regional comparison, the number of accidents in total is declining. In the Ortenaukreis, for example, the incidents decreased from 30 to 23. The situation in the Rastatt district developed similarly, where the number of accidents could be reduced from 10 to 7. In Baden-Baden, the number of accidents remained constant at zero, which is a positive news that indicates good measures.

practical tips for parents

The police have some useful advice for parents to increase the safety of their children on the way to school. An important point is that parents with their children take the way to school in order to identify both the safest ways and possible sources of danger. The so -called school route plan represents a valuable resource because it shows safe crossing options and notes frequent danger spots.

In addition, it is recommended to wear striking clothing and use reflective vests, especially in the dark season. This means that children can be better perceived, which significantly increases safety in road traffic. Even when driving, parents should always drive at low speed near schools and kindergartens in order to be able to react to spontaneous actions of children.

The accident prevention is not only the task of the police, but also the parents. For example, children should get into the car, especially on the road. Parents should make sure not to park on the sidewalk so that a clear view of all road users, especially for small pedestrians.

The start of school not only brings increased traffic on the streets, but also the responsibility to ensure that children get to school safely. The “Safe School Way” initiative shows that the police and the community work intensively to increase security and prevent accidents.
