CSU demands contradiction solution: more life through organ donation

The challenge of organ donation in Germany

Munich (ots)

In Germany, there are currently over 8,400 people on the waiting list for a life -saving donor organ, including around 1,200 in Bavaria alone. This worrying number illustrates the urgency of an effective political solution to improve the transplant system.

access to information about organ donation

Despite the introduction of a digital organ donor register in March this year, only a small part of the population is familiar with this new tool. According to an INSA survey, only 38 percent of the Germans know this register. The fact is frightening that over half of the respondents have no interest in documenting their willingness to donate organ. This shows that considerable educational work is required to inform the citizens about the importance and possibilities of organ donation.

Insight of the CSU parliamentary group

The CSU parliamentary group has declared the topic of urgent political priority. The parliamentary group leader Klaus Holetschek underlines the need to change the Transplantation Act in order to make organ donation. In his opinion, the extended resolution should be removed, in which organs may be removed, unless it is expressly contradicted that the new regulation is. "As a health minister, I have already positioned myself clearly: In the event of an extended solution to objection, organ donation would then be the normal case and no longer the special case with express consent," explains Holetschek.

The human dimension behind the statistics

Bernhard Seidenath, the health policy spokesman for the CSU parliamentary group, appeals to the emotional aspects of an organ transplant. "A transplant can survive many seriously ill people and even lead a life in extensive normality," he emphasizes. The implementation of measures such as the introduction of transplant officers in clinics and the promotion of research in the field of xenotransplantation are steps that have been taken in the past. Nevertheless, the high number of deaths on the waiting lists remains a tragic reality that has to be countered with a new legislative direction.

A call for active participation

In order to counteract the impending danger of "death on the waiting list", Seidenath appeals to all citizens to deal with organ donation. "It is important to worry during his lifetime and to document a decision," he says. The psychological aspect that an extended contradiction solution makes the relatives' decision easier could help to increase donations significantly.

The future of organ donation

The CSU parliamentary group calls for rethinking in society and an approving signal from the legislator. "Take part! Because organ donation gives life - maybe your own!", Holetschek concludes his call. The initiative to change the Transplantation Act could be the crucial step to save several lives and significantly increase the operations of organ donation in the future.
