Heroes of the sea: Students learn from Christian Weigand sustainability
The recent lectures by Christian Weigand, a key figure of the environmental initiative Blue Awarness e.V., have inspired the students in the Biberach district to actively work for the protection of the oceans and sustainable ways of life.
an urgent appeal to the young generation
Between July 17 and 19, Weigand gave a total of five lectures for around 1,400 students. He not only presented the alarming facts for sea pollution, but also appealed to the emotions of the young people. His approach to transferred the knowledge was based on the conviction that emotions can and should influence action.
personal experiences as Motivation
Weigand kidnapped the students in 2010 when he spent a formative time in New Zealand and Australia after graduating from high school. These experiences in nature and the awareness of the beauty of our world fueled his commitment to environmental protection. After returning to Germany, he studied business administration with a focus on environmental and resource economy in order to create a well-founded basis for his mission.
clarity about the threat
During his lecture, Weigand confronted the students with the terrifying fact that there are estimated five trillions of plastic pieces in the oceans. He explained how plastic does not dismantle, but increasingly disintegrates to microplastics, which can now be found in many food products, including honey. Weigand met this facts with non -displeasing displeasure about the system, which caused these problems, explained at the same time that each part of the solution can be.
Klein start for big changes
In search of solutions, Weigand encouraged the students to also become active on a small scale. By using glass bottles, buying biodegradable products or using your own shopping bags, you can already take significant steps in the right direction. Weigand in particular emphasized the concept of the clothing exchange as a simple but effective measure that can be implemented in everyday life.
sustainability is a long -term process
"Living sustainably is not a sprint, but a marathon," said Weigand. The message here was clear: Even if setbacks are inevitable on the way to an environmentally conscious life, every progress is important. At the end of his lectures, he asked the students to raise themselves when they were ready to take the next step towards sustainability. This was adopted by almost everyone present, which Weigand interpreted as a sign of the unshakable will of the young generation.
The future of the oceans in our hands
Weigand's conviction that the students can be referred to as "heroes of the seas" is more than just a motivating keyword. Every little step towards less plastic waste can have a positive impact on the environment. This series of lectures not only conveyed knowledge, but also a clear message: The young generation has the strength to make a difference.
