start of school 2024: Police prevention for children's security
With the summer vacation that will soon end, not only the stress of exams, but also new challenges for the youngest are imminent. On August 21, 2024, the new school year for 5,631 first graders will open in North Rhine-Westphalia. In Bochum, Herne and Witten, those responsible rely on increased security measures to ensure the well -being of the schoolchildren on the way to school.
police measures for traffic safety
The police announced an intensive focus on securing school from August 21 to 30, 2024. Last year there were 17 accidents with children on their way to school, which means a decline, but every incident remains a reason for concern.
preventive training for first graders
In order to convey the right behavior in road traffic to the children, the team of traffic accident prevention in cooperation with police officers will become active at primary schools. This includes, among other things, the safe crossing of streets on pedestrian crossings and the behavior at bus stops.
- significant goals are the improvement of traffic safety and awareness of potential dangers.
- The children are prepared to act safely and confidently in local public transport.
Appeal to the parents: Take a role model function seriously
An essential aspect of the initiative is the appeal to the parents. These are of great responsibility and should be aware of your role model function. Proper behavior in road traffic can not only protect your child, but also help others to live more safely.
Another concern concerns compliance with the holding and parking bans around schools. Parking vehicles, especially “parent taxis”, hinder the children's view and enlarge the risk of accidents when they cross the street.
joint campaign days for transport prevention
In order to further raise awareness of the protection of school, special campaign days take place in the three cities at the beginning of school. The Bochum traffic watch and other partners organize informative events in which parents and children are trained for safe behavior in road traffic.
