The new year starts 36-month police training in Saxony
An important day for the Saxons police: On September 2, 2024, 308 new trainees began their career at the Saxon police schools. These new recruits represent the first year that is going through an innovated training over a period of 36 months, which is an important change for police training in the region.
The new police officers are 102 women and 206 men who will be trained in various locations in the next three years. The training takes place at the technical schools in Schneeberg, Chemnitz and Leipzig, which have been part of the Saxon Police (FH) University of Applied Sciences since 2022. The sports funding group, which was strengthened with nine new colleagues, deserves special mention. This special training is individualized in order to meet the needs of competitive sports.
Presentation of the training content
A central point of the reformed training structure is the extension of the training period from 30 to 36 months. This decision follows a comprehensive reform of the training and study content that has been initiated in recent years. The aim of this reform is to optimally prepare the prospective police officers for the challenges of their later professional life. This includes the integration of current topics such as democratic resilience, political education as well as media literacy and digitization. Practical training shares were significantly increased to ensure practical and action -oriented training.
Rector Dirk Benkendorff was pleased with the new training start and emphasized the pioneering role of the Saxons police: "We are the only federal state in Germany that offers 36-month training. So our future police officers have the opportunity to be prepared for everyday police life. Together we shape the police!"
In the police school in Schneeberg, 174 candidates begin their training, 84 start in Chemnitz and 50 in Leipzig. The welcomes of the new trainees take place by the responsible rectors and chancellors of the respective technical schools, which underlines the personal address and warmth of the reception. The academic environment is shaped by professional support and individual support in order to guarantee the new colleagues the best possible training.
But that's just the beginning. As early as October 1, 2024, another 150 prospective commissioners will start their studies at the Saxon police University of Saxony in Bautzen. This shows that the Saxons police not only relies on education, but also on a continuous reinforcement of their strength to meet the growing requirements.
With this renewal in police training, the Saxons police show that she has recognized the change of times and that it would be proactively face the challenges of the coming years. The focus on practical content and modern teaching methods is a clear step in the right direction and will surely help to further increase the quality of police work in Saxony.
