Baden-Badeners vote: A yes” for a better future!

In Baden-Baden on Sunday, June 29, 2025, there will be a central decision: In the referendum, citizens will vote on the construction of a new central hospital. The voting period extends from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and not only German citizens are eligible to vote, but also EU citizens who are at least 16 years old and have lived in Baden-Baden for at least three months, as the city administration informs. The voting question is: “Are you in favor of repealing resolutions 1, 3 and 9 passed by the local council on November 25, 2024 and for the city of Baden-Baden to only agree to the construction of a new central clinic on the condition that Baden-Baden is its location?”

Particular attention is paid to the “Yes to Baden-Baden” trucks that are present in front of the festival hall. Goodnews4.de reports that ... this symbolic measure was initiated by Ruben Schuster and his supporters. Schuster says that he has received predominantly positive feedback from citizens and calls on all Baden-Baden residents to go to the polls and vote “yes”. This commitment is no coincidence - Schuster emphasizes that for him this is a “matter of honor” for democracy and that his commitment represents an independent and unpaid initiative.

Electoral procedures and important information

On this election Sunday, election notifications will be automatically sent to all eligible voters registered in the electoral roll by June 8, 2025 at the latest. If someone does not receive their voting notification, they should contact the city administration immediately. In order to vote, valid identification is required - this can be either an ID card or a passport. There is also the option of postal voting, which must be returned by 6 p.m. on election day at the latest. The same applies here: Anyone who wants to submit applications under the conditions for postal voting can do so conveniently online or using the corresponding form on the election notification.

Please note: Taking photos or filming in the voting booth is prohibited. Anyone who is sick that day has until 3 p.m. to apply for a postal vote and should ask for a new one at the polling station if they have an incorrectly filled out ballot.

The background of the referendum

Baden-Baden sees this referendum not just as another vote, but as a formative event that illustrates how citizen participation is lived in the city. [Baden-baden.de states that...](https://www.baden-baden.de/buergerservice/news/fragen-und- Answeren-zum-buergerentscheid_18322/) this type of voting unites and is important in order to strengthen direct contact between citizens and their representatives. Voters are called upon to use their voice and actively intervene in the shaping of their city.

In Germany, elections and votes follow the principles of the Basic Law. Bpb.de explains that ... state power comes from the people and is exercised through general, direct, free, equal and secret elections. This is especially true in the municipality, where every vote has the same value and every citizen can vote regardless of background or beliefs.

It remains exciting to see what the citizens of Baden-Baden will decide! On Sunday they have the opportunity to cast their vote for the future of their city. Be there!
