Baden-Württemberg: These two lakes hold deadly secrets!
A well-known travel portal recently published a list of the five most dangerous lakes in Germany - and two of these water-rich places can be found in Baden-Württemberg. This region is known for its picturesque lakes that offer not only relaxation but also adventure, according to the website Swabian Post reported. But behind the idyllic facade there are risks that divers and bathers should definitely be aware of.
Let's start with the Blautopf in Blaubeuren, which is known for its fascinating turquoise water color. This color, caused by light scattering and a high lime content, attracts many visitors, but swimming, diving and driving are strictly prohibited here. The Blautopf has an extensive, unexplored cave system that is estimated to cover up to 160 kilometers. Several tragic diving accidents in the past have meant that diving here is only permitted with a special permit and professional equipment Mercury reported.
The devil's table in Lake Constance
The second dangerous place is the Teufelstisch, which is located in Lake Constance between Konstanz-Wallhausen and Bodman. This rock pinnacle has something special: it drops almost vertically under water up to 90 meters. Despite a diving ban that has been in place since 1994, the Devil's Table still attracts many divers. The poor visibility conditions and the vertical underwater waves are particularly challenging, which is why a special permit is required here too. Diving accidents, even involving rescue divers, are not uncommon here, which further highlights the dangers.
Both lakes are an impressive example of how temptation and danger can come close together. Amateur divers in particular should be aware of the risks. The impressive water color of the Blautopf or the impressive depth of the Devil's Table are spectacular, but it is definitely advisable to be well informed beforehand and, if necessary, to seek professional help.
Special features of the lakes
For those who want to find out more about the Blautopf, there are even documentaries such as “Mythos Blautopf – Expedition into the Dark” and “Diving into the Cold Heart of the Alb”, which provide further insight into the mysterious underwater world. But be careful: these waters are wonderful and adventurous, but also very treacherous.
