Biber-Bräu is celebrating a comeback: experience beer nostalgia live at Weberberg!
What a celebration last weekend in Biberach! The return of the traditional Biber-Bräu after more than 20 years was duly celebrated with a celebratory tasting at Weberberg. The “Zum Biber” brewery, which closed in 2003, is now back in business. The Adler Brewery in Moosbeuren brewed 2,000 liters of the famous beer, and beer lovers flocked to try the historic drink. Fredo Billwiller, a passionate beer lover, couldn't resist defrosting his last four bottles of the old Biber-Bräu and comparing them with the new taste. What an exciting revival of the beer tradition! Schwäbische.de reports.
The revival of Biber-Bräu is not only a personal concern for Fredo Billwiller, but also the result of hard work behind the scenes. Master brewer Franz-Josef Schökle from the Adlerbrauerei, supported by Susanne Handtmann-Kreyer and Mathias Heinzler, has made it his mission to revive the old family recipes of the Handtmann dynasty. Handtmann-Kreyer expressed his enthusiasm about the return of Biber-Bräu and emphasized the importance of preserving regional beer culture, which Mathias Heinzler also emphasized when he praised the great response to the tasting. The Biber-Bräu can already be purchased in the “Handmann zum Biber” beverage store in Biberach, but it remains unclear whether there will be another batch after the first edition of 2,000 liters. A decision on this may be made in the fall.
Combine tradition and enjoyment
After a two-year renovation, the old Biber brewery has now established itself as a favorite place for beer and gourmet lovers. The historic building from 1879, with its high ceilings and cast-iron columns, exudes a special atmosphere. A highlight is the oval kitchen island from Molteni, a luxury kitchen manufacturer from southern France, which forms the heart of the new restaurant. The impressive kitchen island, known from Paul Bocuse's Gourmet World, is complemented by a huge, free-hanging extractor hood, and guests can look forward to a special culinary experience as the dishes are prepared before their eyes. You can find out more about this on the website of the old Biber brewery alte-biber-brauerei.de.
The topic of beer is very important in Germany, not least because of the numerous museums that honor the long history and culture of beer. Special events such as the Oktoberfest in Munich attract millions of visitors every year and promote awareness of the regional art of brewing. According to that Federal Association of the German Brewing Industry Beer culture is increasingly turning into a diverse enjoyment characterized by regional characteristics and traditional recipes. Ideal for anyone who enjoys hiking or cycling from brewery to brewery, beer trails offer many opportunities to explore local brewing culture and its origins.
It remains exciting to see how the story of Biber-Bräu unfolds and whether the region's beer lovers will continue to support the return of the traditional brand in such large numbers.
