New life in Biberach: 18 affordable social housing inaugurated!
Something is happening on the housing market in Biberach! 18 new social housing units have just been completed at Altmannweg 28 and 30 and are now waiting for the first tenants to move into them. The groundbreaking ceremony for this project took place a good year and a half ago, and the new apartments not only offer modern living space, but also an affordable alternative for many. According to a report by Schwäbische.de, the rental prices for the new apartments are around 33 percent below the usual local level. The entire project has a budget of around 4.5 million euros, of which 3 million euros were covered by funding from the state of Baden-Württemberg.
These new apartments are designed to be particularly family-friendly and barrier-free. The architects Rolf Gurland and Sabine Seher have done a good job here, as the new buildings are based on a project on Schweidnitzallee that opened in 2023. The equipment with underfloor heating and the good connections to public transport are further plus points that round off the offer. In this way, the city of Biberach is meeting the growing need for social housing and is pursuing an ambitious goal: 500 apartments will soon be available. There are currently 361.
The promotion of housing construction
If you think that's it, you're far from the truth! Companies and private individuals also have the opportunity to apply for subsidies for rental housing. Various measures can be applied for, including new construction or acquisition of new rental housing as well as modification and expansion measures. The city of Biberach offers comprehensive information on this on its website Biberach.de. The funding is provided through low-interest loans and grants that are intended for low-income households eligible for housing.
It is important that the application for funding must be made before the project begins in order to avoid rejection. If you are a builder or investor interested in the various requirements, you can contact the responsible housing promotion office directly.
A look beyond national borders
It's not just Biberach that benefits from this development. There is also significant investment in social housing at the federal level. A current report from the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Construction makes it clear that a total of 3.5 billion euros are available for the 2025 program year. This includes funding of 500 million euros for the “Young Living” program. Federal Minister Verena Hubertz emphasizes how important social housing is for the creation of affordable living space BMWSB.
In 2023, 61,934 social housing units were already supported across Germany, which represents an impressive increase of around 25 percent compared to the previous year. Biberach is therefore part of a positive development and is making its contribution to a healthy housing market.
