Recent developments include not only the defusing of three more explosive devices - two on Patong Beach and one on Phromthep Cape, a popular viewing point - but also the airport's strong recommendation that travelers allow more time for security procedures. Before entering the terminal, security staff asks all passengers to follow instructions carefully.
Increased security measures
Due to the current situation, security measures at Phuket Airport have been increased. Travelers must be prepared for more intensive controls. This also includes motorcycles that have been parked at the airport for an unusually long time being taken to the police station. “Follow the instructions of security personnel,” says the official website Airport Authority, which also explains what safety precautions apply to passengers. These include, for example, strict quantity limits and special packaging requirements for liquids, aerosols and gels (LAGs).
Security procedures require passengers to carry LAGs over 100ml in checked baggage and carry the remainder in a clear plastic bag with a maximum capacity of 1,000ml. Sharp objects and weapons must also be carried in checked baggage, while passengers must follow instructions during security checks such as wearing belts and shoes.

In addition to the increased screening, travelers are asked to check their personal belongings before leaving the security area. “It is advisable to pay attention to all safety precautions to ensure that everything runs smoothly,” warns the airport staff.
