Complete closure in Nagold: Kernenstrasse remains closed until December 13th!
The city of Nagold announced today that the upcoming full closure of Kernenstrasse in the area of the train station crossing is already underway and will last until December 13, 2025. The reason for this measure is urgent renovation work on the level crossing. Traffic will be redirected via Lange Straße, Calwer Straße, Emminger Straße, Silcherstraße and back, as the Black Forest messenger reported.
This renovation work is part of a broader plan by Deutsche Bahn that aims to modernize the rail network in Germany. Again ADAC As noted, numerous large construction sites are planned in the coming years. Important routes will be closed for at least five years longer than originally planned. The commuter route between Hamburg and Berlin will also be completely closed until April 30, 2026, which represents a significant challenge for travelers.
Large construction sites in Germany
The planned renovation measure in Nagold is only a small part of a much larger project in which the federal government wants to invest around 166 billion euros in the infrastructure. This includes around 107 billion euros that are specifically earmarked for the modernization and renovation of dilapidated railway lines, such as daily news reported. This means that over 40 heavily used routes, such as the Riedbahn between Frankfurt and Mannheim, will be completely renovated by the mid-2030s.
The ongoing and planned construction work means that travelers will have to expect restrictions in the coming years. But the hope remains that these investments will improve punctuality and reliability in the long term. The modernization of train stations into so-called “train stations of the future” is also being pushed forward in order to ensure a uniform design, improved train information and accessibility.
The situation clearly shows that there is currently a lot of work to be done in the transport infrastructure. So if you plan to travel in the near future, you should keep an eye on current information and consider alternative routes if necessary. The diversions for Kernenstrasse in Nagold are just a first sign that fundamental improvements are necessary to make the traffic flow on our rail network future-proof.
