Lucie Luft runs 24 hours for the hospice: fundraising hike in the Black Forest!
Nature is calling and the good cause is in the foreground: Lucie Luft from Remchingen is organizing an impressive fundraising hike through the Black Forest. Next Saturday morning, the 24-hour event with a distance of 70 kilometers and over 1,500 meters of elevation, a dedicated team of around a dozen runners will come together to raise funds for the Christian Hospice Pforzheim-Einzkreis to collect. This event is not only a challenge for the participants, but also an opportunity to draw attention to the valuable work of the hospice and to emphasize the importance of hospice care in our society.
The hike starts in Wilferdingen and takes runners through beautiful meadows, fields and forests as well as historic villages until they arrive in Freudenstadt on Sunday morning. “The route was designed by my husband Heiko to offer varied sections and shady paths,” explains passionate ultra-runner and naturopath Lucie Luft, who has taken part in many international long-distance races, including in countries such as Peru, the Czech Republic and Spain. She is even planning a tour of the salt desert in Botswana for September.
A run with meaning
The main aim of the 24-hour run is not only to provide a sporting challenge, but also to raise awareness of the necessary support that the hospice needs on a daily basis. Filling an important gap in palliative care, Christian Hospice offers a variety of services to meet the needs of seriously ill people. According to that Diaconia Hospice work aims to enable people to die with dignity in the final phases of their lives and supports not only those affected, but also their relatives.
Thanks to the financial resources collected through events like this, the Pforzheim-Enzkreis Hospice can maintain its comprehensive offerings. This includes targeted palliative medical treatments, psychosocial counseling and spiritual support. “60-95% of the financing comes from health insurance companies, but we still rely on donations to ensure the quality of our work,” explains a representative of the hospice association. In 2003, the Hospiz Pforzheim – Enzkreis e.V. support association was founded to further advance the realization of the hospice idea.
Support for participants
The route takes the runners via Ellmendingen, Gräfenhausen, Neuenbürg and Enzklösterle, where the mayor provides the participants with a sports hall for a well-deserved rest. Heiko Luft will accompany the runners in his car throughout the entire event and surprise them with energy-rich snacks and drinks at five refreshment stations.
Beyond the challenge, participants will not only share an unforgettable experience, but also express their connection to the hospice idea. Anyone who would like to find out more about the Pforzheim-Enzkreis hospice can find extensive information about their work and the call for membership in the support association on the hospice's website. Together we can make a difference, and despite the difficult topics, the run ushers in a wave of hope and solidarity.
