Halloween night on October 31, 2025 brought with it some unpleasant incidents in Leinfelden-Echterdingen. Overall, the night in the Esslingen district remained comparatively quiet, with three notable exceptions. As the Esslinger newspaper Reportedly, three 13-year-old children were attacked by five masked teenagers. They demanded money and sweets and injured two of the children by kicking them.
The police were well prepared and announced an increased presence and intensive controls in advance. Around 120 “Halloween missions” were registered in the Reutlingen presidium area – a decrease compared to the previous year. These operations mainly resulted from disturbances of the peace, damage to property and the unauthorized setting off of fireworks. The increased number of firecrackers was particularly noticeable on Halloween night. There were also occasional arguments and physical altercations, often under the influence of alcohol.

Halloween, also known as All Hallows' Eve, is celebrated on October 31st and ushers in the season of Allhallowtide. This is a period dedicated to the deceased, including saints and martyrs. The origins of the festival lie in Celtic harvest festivals, particularly the Gaelic festival Samhain, which has pagan roots. Irish and Scottish immigrants brought Halloween traditions to North America in the 19th century.
Typical celebrations include trick-or-treating, costume parties, pumpkin carving and visiting haunted attractions. Telling scary stories and watching horror films are also popular activities. In the United States, celebrating Halloween is now highly commercialized, with spending estimated at over $12 billion in 2023, particularly on decorations and costumes.

However, apart from the unfortunate incidents in Leinfelden-Echterdingen, the police presence and measures to maintain order were a welcome precaution. The traditions of the Halloween festival have become established in this country, similar to Walpurgis Night. It turns out that the fascination for the spooky and supernatural, coupled with lively celebrations, is very popular. However, the question remains how to deal with the darker sides of these celebrations in the future and ensure that everyone involved can celebrate carefree.
