Postbank in Lörrach closes parcel acceptance: rethink now!
There are current developments at Postbank in Cologne and the surrounding area that are important for many customers. From August 12, 2025, the branch in Lörrach will no longer accept parcels and letters. Instead, it will function as an “advisory bank branch,” but without cash desk operations and postal services. This change is part of a wider restructuring being implemented as part of a store remodel. Postbank remains a 100 percent subsidiary of Deutsche Bank AG and has already undergone past changes several times, as Schwarzwälder Bote reports.
For customers in Lörrach, this means that cash transactions will in future have to be carried out at the nearest Postbank branch in Müllheim. In order to cushion the situation a bit, the “Kiosk 79” at Kirchstrasse 17 will offer all relevant postal services from July 15, 2025. Another offer is available at the postal partner branch “Box in der Galerie” on the Alter Markt, which is also open until 8 p.m. In order to inform customers about the changes in a timely manner, Postbank plans to distribute notices and leaflets in the branch.
Renovation and modernization of the branch
The renovation work in the Lörrach branch is divided into two phases. In the first phase, from August 12th, the existing counters will be removed and a central “service point” will be set up. In the second phase, which is scheduled for the second half of September, a multifunctional zone – the “Postbank Lounge” – will be created. These upgrades are part of a comprehensive plan aimed at adapting the branch to customer needs and increasing service quality.
Furthermore, Postbank is not alone in this challenge. Across Germany, Postbank plans to close around 230 of its 550 branches by 2027. There are currently 97 branches on the closure list, which puts around 1,000 jobs at risk, as Focus reports. The affected cities include Berlin, Düsseldorf and Frankfurt. The situation is particularly challenging for smaller cities and rural communities, where customers sometimes have to forego branches altogether.
The future of Postbank
In order to continue to offer a service that meets customers' needs, Postbank intends to set up 11 regional advice centers for video and telephone advice. These new concepts are intended to compensate for the closures and offer customers alternative ways to receive advice and service. In addition, customers who do not have a branch nearby may consider switching to another bank, as some experts see operating branches and ATMs as increasingly unprofitable.
Amid these restructurings and challenges, Postbank remains committed to maintaining its service offering. Branches that still offer their postal and parcel services will continue to be adapted to customer needs, and the option to withdraw cash through supermarkets will also be offered. Finally, it should be noted: The Postbank, which was once part of the Federal Postal Service, is required to adapt to the current circumstances and to continue to support customers through innovative measures, such as publishing house Jaumann notes.
