Wild Wings fight until the last second: Polar Bears defeat them in OT!

In the most exciting DEL duel of the evening on October 31, 2025, the Schwenninger Wild Wings suffered an unfortunate 3:4 defeat against the Eisbären Berlin. The game ended after extra time and caused emotions for both the players and the 4,894 spectators in the Schwenninger Arena. Despite the numerous failures of the Eisbären, including players like Korbinian Geibel and Patrick Khodorenko, the hosts showed fighting spirit.

The Eisbären started the game strongly and were already leading 2-0 after the first third. Eric Mik and Ty Ronning each scored for Berlin, putting the Wild Wings behind early. However, Schwenningen's goalkeeper Joacim Eriksson kept his team in the game by thwarting many of the Eisbären's dangerous moves. Schwenninger's offensive attempts also did not go unnoticed, as Tyson Spink's goal in the second third made it 1:2.

Exciting gameplay

The second third then developed into a real thriller when Jordan Szwarz equalized to make it 2-2. Things got hot in the final third - Danny O'Regan gave the Wild Wings the lead, only for Ty Ronning to equalize a little later. Schwenningen pushed for victory, but the polar bears showed strong mental strength. In extra time it was Markus Vikingstad who finally decided for Berlin and ended the game with a goal in the 63rd minute.

After the game, coach Mirko Höfflin was understandably disappointed with the defeat, despite his team's strong performance. “We played well, but luck wasn't on our side,” he commented. The penalty ratio of 6 to 4 for the Wild Wings also shows that the Polar Bears were under pressure, but were still able to convert some chances.

On the wrong track?

This is the Eisbären's fourth defeat in a row, after they had already suffered some bitter setbacks against teams like the Adler Mannheim and the Fishtown Pinguins. Given the recent results, coach Serge Aubin will have to think about getting his team back on the road to success. The last meeting between the two teams ended in a narrow 1-2 defeat in favor of the Wild Wings, which only strengthens the rivalry this season.

The appeal of ice hockey remains unbroken, and the Wild Wings will go into the next games with the new momentum. It will be exciting to see whether they can consistently perform or whether the polar bears can find their way back. The league is slowly picking up speed and the next encounters promise spectacular moments on the ice.

Everyday sporting life in the DEL is primarily characterized by competitive pressure and the search for the right balance - both on and off the ice. It remains to be seen how the teams will perform in the coming weeks.
