Drunk drivers in Geislingen: Police sound the alarm!

Several incidents of drunk driving have been reported in Geislingen and the surrounding area in recent days, once again raising awareness of the dangers and legal consequences of driving under the influence of alcohol. A series of accidents that occurred on Saturday, June 22, 2025 deserve special attention.

On Saturday afternoon, around 3:30 p.m., a 67-year-old Renault driver caused a stir on Überkinger Straße. While changing lanes, he collided with the Mercedes-Benz of a 56-year-old and caused material damage of around 750 euros, fortunately without any injuries. Immediately after the incident, the person who caused the accident continued driving without permission, but was later picked up by the police on Neuwiesenstrasse. The breath alcohol test showed an alarming over 2 per mille. Particularly spicy: the man's driver's license had already been revoked in 2024. The police filed several charges, including drunk driving and leaving the scene of an accident without permission.

More alcohol-related incidents

But that wasn't all. At 5:30 p.m. a Skoda Fabia was reported driving suspiciously on Friedrichstrasse. A 50-year-old who had lost control of his vehicle and whose engine kept stalling was found by the police at his owner's address in Gingen an der Fils. His breath alcohol test showed over 2.5 per mille, whereupon a blood sample was taken and his driver's license was confiscated. The driver now has to answer for drunk driving.

On the night of Friday to Saturday, at 12:30 a.m., a witness reported a gray VW Golf that was conspicuous on Hohenstaufenstrasse in Göppingen. The 41-year-old driver was unable to stay in lane and almost got into an accident with a pedestrian. The police also found him and the alcohol test showed that he had a blood alcohol level of more than 1 per mille. A blood sample was ordered.

The legal consequences of drunk driving

Driving under the influence of alcohol is not only dangerous, but can also have drastic legal consequences. If the blood alcohol level reaches 1.6 per mille, your driving license will be revoked and a medical-psychological examination (MPU) will be required. Administrative offenses can occur at just 0.3 per mille, especially in the event of accidents. The penalties range from fines to points in Flensburg and driving bans, which can be even stricter for novice drivers during their probationary period, and even a zero blood alcohol limit applies to them. The numerous incidents remind us how important it is to use alcohol responsibly while driving.

The increasing number of alcohol-related accidents in particular makes it clear that alcohol significantly impairs the ability to react and coordinate and drastically increases the risk of accidents. The risk of an accident increases significantly from just 0.3 per mille. Therefore, you should never get behind the wheel while intoxicated, as you endanger not only yourself but also other road users.

It is advisable for those affected to consult a lawyer immediately in the event of an incident in order to explore their individual legal options and to avoid possible punishment.
