Horrific kidnapping in a supermarket parking lot in Tübingen - police are asking for information!

A shocking kidnapping case is causing a stir in Tübingen. On Holy Saturday, April 19, 2025, a 68-year-old woman was kidnapped and robbed in the parking lot of a Rewe supermarket. The perpetrator surprised the elderly woman around 12:40 p.m., threatened her with a knife, beat her and tied her up. He then put the woman in the trunk of her own Audi A6 Avant and fled to a secluded location. Fortunately, the woman managed to free herself from her predicament around 2 p.m. and open the trunk from the inside. Witnesses who saw what was happening alerted the police and the emergency services, who took the injured person to hospital. The perpetrator stole several of the woman's bank cards and has not yet been caught.

On Monday, November 5, 2025, the case was featured on the ZDF program “ File number XY… unsolved ". Numerous tips were requested. The police have published a phantom photo of the suspect; witnesses have recognized the man from it. A reward of 2,000 euros has been offered for information that leads to the investigation of the case. Tips can be given to the Tübingen police on 07071/972-4242 or by email to tuebingen.kk@polizei.bwl.de.

Background and current crime situation

The most recent events highlight the development of crime in Germany. According to the police crime statistics from the Federal Criminal Police Office, there was a decrease in registered crimes by 1.7% to around 5.84 million cases in 2024. The decline in cannabis crimes is particularly noticeable, which can be attributed to partial legalization in April 2024. Nevertheless, many citizens report an increased sense of security, while certain crimes affecting personal freedom continue to increase.

The most common crimes in 2024 included theft, property and forgery crimes, and crimes against personal freedom. Despite the decrease in the overall number of crimes, Tübingen is not spared from criminal incidents that put the local community on alert.

Urban political reactions

The discussions about security and everyday threats, as can be observed in Tübingen, are in the context of general developments in Baden-Württemberg. The state parliament recently decided to change the property tax law in order to reduce bureaucracy and support communities in their security work. Citizens are required to be vigilant and to always contact the police if they suspect criminal activity. Because especially in these uncertain times, the motto is: Safety first!

It remains to be hoped for the population that joint efforts and far-sighted urban policies will create the conditions for a safe everyday life.
