Yesterday it was that time again: The Fitness First Würzburg Baskets competed in an exciting duel in the easyCredit Basketball Bundesliga. In the SNP dome in Heidelberg they played against the MLP Academics and suffered a bitter defeat. Würzburg Baskets report a final score of 51 to 85 in favor of the hosts.
Even at halftime, things looked anything but rosy for Würzburg: Heidelberg was clearly ahead with 44 to 34. The statistics make it clear where the baskets are in trouble. They were unable to prevent a total of 25 turnovers, while the Academics only left the ball 14 times. The hit rate wasn't exactly encouraging either. The best throwers in the Würzburg team were Davion Mintz with 12 points, followed by Marcus Carr and Charles Thompson, who each scored 11 points.
A hard blow for the Würzburgers
Although the Würzburgers were still doing well this season with 24 wins from 34 games and recently celebrated a narrow win against Berlin, the latest defeat seems to be a setback for the team. The Academics themselves are currently on a path to renewal and had the game well under control in front of their own audience. Dusan Neskovic was his team's top performer with 14 points and four three-pointers. Michael Weathers also stood out with 14 points and 7 assists.
It will now be important for the Würzburg Baskets to rally again after this defeat. The next games are just around the corner: Science City Jena awaits on October 31st, before Galatasaray Istanbul on November 4th and the ROSTOCK SEAWOLVES on November 9th.
