Traffic jam nightmare in Corpus Christi: chaos on highways in the south!
Corpus Christi is just around the corner, and with it there is the threat of massive traffic chaos, especially in the southern federal states of Germany. June 19th, 2025 not only brings a public holiday for many, but also an increased volume of traffic, which will clog the highways from Wednesday, June 18th. How Mercury reported that last year Wednesday was one of the ten busiest days, and this year is expected to be no different.
The traffic volume will be concentrated on the motorways in Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Hesse, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland, where the risk of traffic jams will be particularly high. Drivers planning to go on a short holiday this long weekend should be prepared for difficult conditions, particularly on heavily used routes such as the A6, A8 and A9.
Danger of traffic jams and construction sites
The ADAC also warns of traffic jams and increased traffic, especially on the Tauern Autobahn in Austria. The motorway is expected to pose a particular challenge in the coming days due to construction sites and full closures. There are currently around 1,200 construction sites on German motorways, including critical routes such as the A8 in the direction of Salzburg, which will be completely closed on Sunday evening until Monday morning ADAC highlights.
Particularly on Saturday, June 21st, the return traffic of Whitsun vacationers from Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg will reach its peak. Drivers should prepare for the fact that many European countries are already on summer holidays and the pressure on the roads will continue to increase.
Keep an eye on the traffic situation
If you want to stay up to date, you can view the current traffic situation via interactive dashboards like those on Autobahn.de are available. These provide comprehensive information on the longest traffic jams and the number of construction sites. Continuous monitoring is made possible in order to be able to react quickly to unforeseeable disruptions.
It is therefore important to keep an eye on upcoming travel traffic and plan alternative routes if necessary. Whether by car or train, the travel time will certainly be a lot longer than usual. If you inform yourself in a timely manner and remain flexible, you may be able to avoid the upcoming traffic chaos.
