Museum in a suitcase: Culture for everyone – mobile, interactive and unforgettable!

In a world that is constantly moving, the heritage of our culture often remains untouched - unless we take a step towards the people. This is also reflected in the new mobile cultural education offering that the Pfinzgau Museum in Karlsruhe has launched. A unique concept was developed under the name “Museum in a Suitcase” to bring a piece of culture closer to people with various disabilities, such as dementia or limited vision and mobility. How karlsruhe.de reports, this project aims to reach those who often cannot come to the museum themselves.

The offer is carried out by the experienced cultural mediators Susanne Krauthauser and Eva Unterburg and can be booked for 120 euros per hour. Every participant is encouraged to actively participate and contribute personal memories. There are five exciting topics to choose from: “Big Laundry”, “Kitchen Secrets”, “Childhood and School”. These topics not only appeal to long-term memory, they also include interactive elements such as touching historical objects and singing songs. Clearly, culture is brought to life here!

Cultural Significance and Accessibility

What makes a good museum? According to the definition on Wikipedia A museum is an institution dedicated to the collection, preservation and presentation of culturally or scientifically significant objects. This task has evolved over the centuries. Nowadays, the focus is not only on preservation, but also on accessibility and the inclusion of a wide range of target groups. Museums can be both public and private institutions and play a fundamental role in education.

Is this easy for us? At a time when many museums are struggling to survive, it is important to find innovative ways to engage people. The “Museum in a Suitcase” is an excellent example that, with its interactive approach, shows the importance of making culture accessible to everyone, while at the same time celebrating the memory and life stories of the participants.

A look into the future

The challenges facing museums are diverse, from funding to the ethical handling of collections. With the support of the Karlsruhe Dementia Network, the Pfinzgau Museum has shown a good knack for setting up a project that not only looks into the future, but is also educational and entertaining. Museums must adapt and create interactive offerings that appeal to and include younger and older generations alike.

Whether you're telling the story of "Big Laundry" or chatting about "kitchen secrets", the "Museum in a Suitcase" is more than just a program - it's an invitation to discover, to switch off and to remember. And that is what culture is all about: bringing people together and promoting the exchange of shared experiences. No matter whether young or old, everyone has a story to tell!

The offer can be booked either by phone or email, so pick up the phone or keyboard! And remember: culture is not a luxury, but a basic right for everyone!
