Renovation chaos in Neuenbürg: construction sites massively slow down traffic flow!
Anyone who moves around Neuenbürg cannot currently avoid construction sites. Two large projects in the city center are currently struggling with delays. But what exactly is behind it? We're talking about the Renovation of the flood protection wall on the Enz as well as the Deer Bridge. Progress is currently stagnating.
The renovation work on the flood protection wall began in May 2024, when the first measures to upgrade the approximately 270 meter long section of the wall were started. But when reviewing the existing documents from the 1930s and 1990s, it turned out that the wall's foundation is weaker than originally assumed. This discovery meant that work had to be stopped for some time. On May 13, 2025, expanded measures could finally be continued.
Similar problems at the Hirschbrücke
The construction site at the Hirschbrücke, for example, which began on April 8th, is facing similar challenges. Here it also became clear that the substance is worse than expected, which means that more concrete has to be removed than originally planned. In addition, the reinforcements were installed differently than noted in the as-built plans.
According to a statement from the Karlsruhe Regional Council The replanning of the renovation of the Hirschbrücke is currently being completed so that the work can be resumed at the beginning of August, at the latest on August 12th. Additional costs of around 200,000 euros are to be expected and the total costs for the two projects amount to around 1.2 million euros.
Current developments on the flood protection wall
The renovation of the flood protection wall is continuing cautiously, with the current schedule now calling for completion in summer 2026. The construction work on Wildbader Straße is taking place with half-way closures, with traffic being regulated by construction site lights. Some excavation work for the new foundation has already been completed, but due to safety requirements, the work must be carried out in stages in stages.
In addition to securing the wall, the overall measure also includes the dismantling of the working level and the creation of sidewalks and parking spaces along Wildbader Straße. There are still a few steps to go before residents can enjoy an undisturbed view of the surrounding area again.
Currently this is also the case Upper Tröstbach spring in focus, which has been out of operation since the 1980s and urgently needs to be renovated. This measure is intended to be part of a comprehensive reorganization of the Tröstbach springs to ensure a secure water supply for the city.
The Karlsruhe Regional Council asks all residents and road users to understand the burdens and restrictions caused by the construction sites. The required measures are necessary to sustainably improve both the infrastructure and security in Neuenbürg.
