Opel driver leaves 2000 euros in damage and flees in Buchen!

An unfortunate incident occurred on Wednesday morning in Buchen in the Neckar-Odenwald district. A woman drove her white Opel Meriva into a parked VW Beetle while reversing out of a parking space, causing material damage of around 2,000 euros. The accident occurred around 11:30 a.m. when the driver was not only surveying the other car, but also her own duties outside the roadway.

After the collision, the woman was approached by an attentive witness. She encouraged her to report the accident to the nearby shopping center. What happened next almost sounds like something out of a crime story: While the witness was doing her shopping, the driver left the scene of the accident without permission. The police have already started an investigation and are asking possible witnesses to contact the Buchen police station on 06281 9040. It's not acceptable to just rush away like that!

Another example of hit and run

A similar case occurred in Steißlingen, where an unknown driver hit a white Opel Meriva and fled. This all happened between September 16th and 17th, 2024 in a parking lot on Kirchstrasse. Here too, the damage caused amounts to around 2,000 euros. Information about the fleeing driver can be reported to the Steißlingen police station on 07738 97014.

The number of accident victims in Germany has been a worrying issue for years. As data from Statista shows, from 2009 to 2024 there were many entries in the driving fitness register due to hit-and-run accidents. In recent years, such incidents have increased, particularly in accidents involving personal injuries. The current survey from May 13, 2025 shows that there is a need for action. Apparently fewer and fewer drivers know that running away is not the best solution. You can see the statistics at Statista read up.

The police in Buchen therefore appeal to all road users to stop after an accident and take their responsibility. An accident can happen to anyone, but the way you deal with it is crucial.

Let's hope that more people show a good knack for responsibility and act mindfully on the road.
