A serious traffic accident turned the Westtangente in Weinheim into a field of rubble on Saturday afternoon. Four vehicles were involved in the serious incident. As RNZ reports, the driver of a Mercedes crossed into the oncoming lane for reasons that are still unclear and collided head-on with an oncoming Audi.
The impact was so violent that the Audi was thrown onto the grass verge. The driver of the Audi, a member of the volunteer fire department from the Rhein-Neckar district, was trapped in his vehicle and had to be freed by the fire department. Tragically, there were also two children in the Audi who, along with both drivers, suffered serious injuries and were immediately taken to hospital. The scene of the accident itself was heavily damaged, indicating the force of the impact.
Rescue workers on duty
The dramatic scenes required the deployment of numerous rescue workers and a rescue helicopter. Emergency responders stood by to assist witnesses and first responders while police investigated the cause of the accident.
