Sünchentunnel: Problems with telephone connection - what's going on?

In the Schorndorfer Sünchentunnel, there have often been problems with the telephone connection. During a trip from Waiblingen to Schwäbisch Gmünd, the ZVW reporter notes that the connection in the tunnel regularly breaks off. In contrast, there are no such connection problems in the neighboring Kappelberg tunnel. The reporter uses a hands -free system, which further increases the difficulties in communication.

This problem is all the more relevant than the Sünchentunnel is part of the B29, which is currently being subjected to extensive renovation work. This work begins on Monday, April 22, 2024, and should affect both the tunnel and the adjacent traffic routes.

renovation projects on the B29

The renovation project includes a total length of around 11.8 kilometers and includes the repair of a total of eleven buildings. The main measures include the renewal of the road surface on the routes between the Rems-Murr district and the Lorch-West junction towards Aalen and between Lorch-West and the Sünchentunnel towards Stuttgart. In addition, an improvement in the drainage facilities and the renewal of the protective planks in the median and side area are planned.

The work is divided into eight construction phases, which enables intelligent traffic routing, whereby only one lane will be available per direction. This is expected to take until spring 2026. It should be noted that the traffic on the B29 is maintained during the entire work. For example, the maximum permissible speed in the construction site area is reduced in the construction phases and partially blocked connection points.

financing and objective

The total measure is financed by the federal government with around 22 million euros. In times when the infrastructure is intensively stressed, especially due to rising truck traffic, it is crucial to secure the functionality of the roads. Last but not least, a powerful infrastructure also improves the mobility of the citizens and strengthens the economy.

The Federal Running Strasse, which was mostly built between the 1960s and 1980s, requires the many heavily contaminated bridges and tunnels. The focus has shifted from new buildings to comprehensive renovation and modernization of existing roads. This is necessary to ensure both resilience and redundancy within the transport network and ensure network availability, such as the Federal Ministry for Digital and traffic emphasized.

Future renovation measures such as those in the Sünchentunnel are therefore not only a reaction to current challenges, but also part of a long -term plan to ensure infrastructure quality in Germany.
