Merz visits German Navy: Impressive exercises off the coast!

On August 28, 2025, a significant military event will take place in Rostock. Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) began his first official trip to the German Navy. The program includes, among other things, a visit to the new national headquarters “Commander Task Force Baltic” (CTF) and a round of discussions with the Inspector of the Navy, Jan Christian Kaack. This trip is not only a sign of the Federal Government's close ties to the armed forces, but also of the appreciation of the Navy, which, with around 15,300 soldiers, is the smallest branch of the Bundeswehr.

The Chancellor will immerse himself in the world of naval exercises on the frigate “Bayern”. The helicopter will take you out to the sea area near Warnemünde, where Merz will observe an impressive naval exercise. These exercises include, among other things, naval supply, defense against aircraft and submarines and defense against missile attacks. These activities are a clear indication of the high level of commitment and professionalism of our Navy.

New uniforms for the Navy

Another interesting aspect in this context is the modernization of uniforms. The German Navy is currently carrying out a wearing test for new summer suits, which are being tested on the frigate “Bayern”. Set to launch in 2023, these new suits are designed to be versatile and identity-defining. The development took place in close collaboration with the Navy to ensure that the uniforms meet both practical and representative requirements.

The white summer suit is worn particularly south of the 40th parallel north and its use within the country is subject to strict requirements. Such measures are important not only for the Marines, but also for the public, who can experience an improved identification with the armed forces.

Uniform rules and regulations

The Bundeswehr uniform is not everyday clothing. It is subject to strict regulations, which are set by the Federal President, among others. According to the Order on Rank Designations and Uniforms (BPresUnifAnO), wearing this uniform without authorization can result in serious legal consequences, including fines or even imprisonment. These regulations are intended to ensure that uniforms are worn with due respect.

The current modernization of the service and dress uniforms of all branches of the armed forces is a further step towards providing personnel with appropriate and functional clothing. In addition to an improved appearance, the ergonomic aspects are also the focus of the developments. The Bundeswehr's clothing management process ensures that soldiers receive their uniforms free of charge, which is a huge plus for the troops.

After this comprehensive visit to Rostock, Merz will continue to France, where a meeting with President Emmanuel Macron in Toulon is already on the agenda. Close cooperation with our European partners will continue to play a central role in the future.
