Commissioner record in Saxony: 157,900 are looking for work in other countries!

Sachsen, Deutschland - The labor market situation in Saxony achieves new dimensions. According to current reports from lvz.de now commuting 157,900 Saxons in other federal countries, what represents a new record. Every tenth Saxon employee is therefore a commuter. A significant proportion of these commuters, exactly 50%, will be employed in West German federal states, especially in Bavaria, North Rhine-Westphalia, Baden-Württemberg and Hesse.

The number of commuters has increased by 3.5% compared to the previous year. At the same time, 145,470 commuters came to Saxony, with the majority from Saxony-Anhalt, abroad, Thuringia, Brandenburg and Bavaria. These developments throw a light on the challenges with which the Free State is faced. Saxony is able to win new specialists, but at the same time lose valuable resources to West German federal states, which is considered problematic, especially in times of demographic change.

professions and income of the commuters

The escaped Saxons are often employed in higher qualified professions, including leaders, researchers, trade employees and IT specialists. For many, financial incentives are the reason to move to other federal states: the median wage in East Germany is only 3,182 euros, while the median wages in West Germany is gross EUR 3,898. Expendants earn an average of 715 euros more, but also have to plan pendulum costs and longer travel times.

The attractiveness of longer work paths is further increased by new forms of work such as hybrids, the four-day week and home office. Despite these positive approaches, DGB boss Markus Schlimbach vehemently criticizes the working conditions in Saxony and emphasizes that returning programs are ineffective as long as the working conditions are not improved.

shortage of skilled workers and future challenges

The situation in Saxony reflects larger trends throughout Germany. The Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs (BMAS) will analyze the labor market developments by 2028 and shows that the number of employees continuously decreases, while immigration and a higher inclination of employment are not sufficient to compensate for this loss. According to bmas.de there are also bottlenecks in certain professional groups and regions, especially in East Germany.

Current analyzes show that 618,000 people will flow on the labor market in the next five years without a degree, while only 396,000 helpers are available. This discrepancy illustrates the existing fit problems on the job market and the challenges that digitization and demography bring. New technologies can also increase the need for competence in many industries and at the same time lead to workplace reduction in others.

The high demolition rates in educational institutions, especially for people of foreign nationality, also tighten the situation. However, investments in renewable energies and a sustainable circular economy could serve as positive impulses for future economic growth.

The trends and challenges found make it clear that Saxony and other regions of Germany need flexible strategies to both gain specialists and to secure and expand existing jobs.
