Weltladen Sindelfingen donates 600 euros for Burkina Faso: This is how you can help!

In the heart of Sindelfingen, volunteer supporters supported the partnership with Burkina Faso. The Weltladen team recently raised an impressive 600 euros in a raffle. This sum was donated to the Evangelical Church District of Böblingen, which has had close ties to Burkina Faso for over 55 years. The first contacts were made as early as 1970, and since then supporting schools and educational projects has been a central concern of the partnership.

Next week, the World Shop will host a reception for guests from Burkina Faso on Tuesday, September 30th from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. At the “Café & Talk” event, visitors have the opportunity to talk to the delegation about the current situation in the country. This encounter takes place in the rooms of the world shop near the Schwätzweiber fountain and invites you to further deepen the friendship between Böblingen and Burkina Faso.

Mango campaign for a good cause

A special highlight is the annual mango campaign, which was launched in 1989 and has now become a central symbol of the partnership. The world shop is actively involved and is selling 300 boxes of fresh mangoes this year. The proceeds of around 120,000 euros go directly to the schools in Burkina Faso: They go towards teacher salaries, school meals and improving the school infrastructure. With every purchase in the world shop you also support small local projects such as the construction of a well in Pédgo, which promotes access to clean drinking water.

The mangoes are transported by plane to Brussels and from there prepared for distribution. From September 18 to October 13, 2025, an eight-person delegation from Burkina Faso will be guests in Böblingen and will take part in various events to further strengthen connections with the German partner community.

Commitment to a better future

Germany's involvement in Burkina Faso is quite extensive. Since the country's independence in 1961, Germany has supported projects in areas such as agriculture, water supply and education. Organizations such as KfW and GIZ, which focus on sustainable development, are involved. This also includes ensuring that the population in larger cities and villages has access to drinking water and sanitation, which is crucial for people's quality of life.

A current goal of development cooperation is to continue to offer schools in Burkina Faso a perspective, which will also benefit the construction of new schools in the Orodara region. These initiatives are particularly important as the country faces increasing challenges, including the threat of Islamist terrorist groups. Responsible handling of financial resources is therefore essential. The church district has also set up emergency relief funds to help particularly affected villages.

The upcoming events in Böblingen, including a seminar day on development cooperation and an anniversary celebration, offer space for discussions and information about the progress and challenges on site. A festive service will be celebrated on October 11, 2025 in memory of the long years of partnership. In this way, the connection between Böblingen and Burkina Faso remains alive and strong, while the collaboration offers an opportunity for many local people.

All proceeds from these activities contribute to sustainably improving living conditions in Burkina Faso and promoting friendship between the two regions. Beyond the mango campaign, every donation and every purchase in the world shop is a step in the right direction.

For further information about the partnership and upcoming events, anyone interested is invited to visit the world shop or register online
