Animal welfare allegations against the Zeeb poultry farm in Reutlingen: Aninova shows catastrophic farming conditions and proven deficiencies.

Zeeb Poultry Farm Scandal: Animal Welfare Violations Revealed!
Serious allegations are currently circulating in Reutlingen against the Zeeb poultry farm, which were made by the animal protection organization Aninova. This criticizes the fact that the farm is more appearance than reality when it comes to the topic of animal husbandry. During nighttime visits, secretly filmed videos were recorded showing “sick and injured animals in catastrophic conditions,” according to Aninova in her report.
As Aninova further explains, the chickens live on wire mesh floors while the run area is blocked by illegal electric fences. These devices are supposedly intended to prevent the animals from leaving the stable. This contradicts the depiction of the poultry farm, which presents itself as free-range farming. Jan Beifer, the CEO of Aninova, is outraged by this discrepancy and has reported the company to the veterinary office.
Supervision and controls
The Reutlingen veterinary office has already looked into the allegations in detail and found that there are deficiencies. Among other things, the immediate removal of the power devices was ordered. Even though the authority says many of the allegations are unfounded, it is concerned about the operating conditions. There have already been five inspections of the poultry farm this year, and despite the findings of deficiencies, the farm still has its permits.
The numbers speak for themselves: the Zeeb poultry farm keeps around 13,000 chickens on an area of 5.5 hectares. The company does business primarily with large customers such as Edeka and Rewe, who purchase eggs from Zeeb. It also addresses the issue that the slaughterhouse where the chickens are killed has come under criticism in the past for serious animal cruelty and over 700 documented violations. This is the scandalous Buckl slaughterhouse in Bavaria, which is now closed. Aninova criticizes the industrial factory farming conditions and calls for a shift towards a vegan lifestyle in order to avoid animal suffering.
A larger context
The debate about animal protection and animal welfare is not new and is also highlighted by experts such as Steffen Augsberg, professor of public law. He emphasizes the legally difficult situation of animals that move between things and humans. The Animal Welfare Act prohibits causing suffering to animals without reasonable cause, but in practice there is often a gap between the law and reality. Augsberg advocates for a clear improvement in animal husbandry conditions and addresses the discrepancy between current legal requirements and actual practices in agriculture.
These events at the Zeeb poultry farm also raise questions about how society treats animals. At a time when more and more people are paying attention to the origin of their food and animal welfare plays a major role, future generations may find current factory farming unacceptable. People's appetite for meat and animal products is often cited as a justification for killing animals, but it is time as a society to think fundamentally about how we treat animals. According to Augsberg, it is crucial to rethink the EU's subsidy policy in order to promote animal welfare-friendly agriculture, as if protecting animals was a concern for all of us.
