Roof avalanche of crime: 18 tons of cable stolen in the Rhine-Neckar district!

In the Rhein-Neckar district, unknown perpetrators committed a massive cable theft and stole around 18 tons of power cables. These were stored on six cable drums in a settlement in Neckarbischofsheim. The police were alerted and have entrusted the Sinsheim police station with the investigation. Witnesses are called upon to call 07261/690-0 to shed light on this incident. Investigators believe the thieves needed a large vehicle to transport the heavy cables.

As sueddeutsche.de reports, the number of cable thefts in Baden-Württemberg is ongoing increased sharply in 2023. Compared to the previous year, 95 more cases were registered. Perpetrators seem to prefer regions close to the border such as the Rhine-Neckar district, where they often take their stolen goods abroad and sell them. Identifying the loot is a real challenge for the police, which plays into the hands of the thieves.

Investigations in full swing

There have been successes in investigations in recent years, as reported by stimme.de. In December 2022, the authorities managed to dismantle internationally operating Bulgarian thieves' gangs. Eight suspects were arrested in a major raid, some of whom are in custody. These gangs are said to have stolen power cables from companies and large construction sites in the southwest in a total of 48 cases.

The current situation shows that the perpetrators are becoming more and more bold and the electronic cables they steal are very popular on the black market. A real problem not only for the companies that suffer from such thefts, but also for the population that suffers the consequences of such criminal activities.

Police are appealing to everyone to be vigilant and report any suspicious sightings. Cable theft is not only an economic problem, but also a social problem that affects security and infrastructure in the region.

Stay tuned to follow developments on this matter and see how authorities respond to the ever-increasing crime rate.
