Death and life: photo exhibition Beautiful Places to Die” opens!

On October 31, 2025, a very special photo exhibition opened in Rottweil: “Beautiful Places to Die”. The inspiring show is initiated by the Academy of the Diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart and takes place in the stable hall. In collaboration with the Sitzwache Rottweil, the Catholic adult education in the Rottweil district (keb) and the Hertkorn funeral home, the aim is to no longer make death a taboo, but to celebrate it as part of life.

A large audience gathered at the opening on Friday evening to address the thoughtful topic. Frank Hertkorn, a representative of the funeral home, emphasized: “It’s about celebrating life without repressing death.” Ursula Deiber from the Sitzwache Rottweil also emphasized how important it is to think about your own desired place to die. Heike Teufel, head of keb, added that reflecting on the end of life also provides space for a conscious examination of life itself.

Opening times and offers of the exhibition

The exhibition shows more than 60 images that reflect the thoughts and feelings of the participants. The exhibition runs until November 8th, with opening hours from Monday to Friday, 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday, Sunday and public holidays, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Chairs and bar tables are available for visitors to provide a place of peace and reflection.

The Rottweil Sitzwache accompanies seriously ill and dying people in the last hours of their lives, regardless of age, illness, religion or nationality. This valuable support takes place in old people's and nursing homes, hospitals and private households in Rottweil and the surrounding area. Anyone interested can contact the organization on 0741 / 3489901 or by email at info@sitzwache-rottweil.de.

Cultural relevance of the exhibition

At the opening, Deputy Mayor Hubert Nowack also emphasized the importance of exchanging ideas on the subject of death. In a society where this is often overlooked, it is important to create spaces for conversation and reflection. This initiative contributes to accepting death as a part of life and viewing it in a new light.

The exhibition in Rottweil shows how creatively and sensitively an often feared topic can be dealt with. Through the combination of art and the exchange of ideas, death becomes an impetus for deeper considerations of life. This exhibition is a must-see for anyone who has the courage to deal with their own life and death. It provides an opportunity to pause and reflect, and ultimately that is a valuable commodity right now.
