TV St. Georgen triumphs 37:27 - SG Dunningen fights in vain!
In an exciting duel in the handball state league, SG Dunningen/Schramberg had to admit defeat to TV St. Georgen/Schwarzwald with 37:27 last weekend. This heavy defeat means that the team from Dunningen loses two points in the fight for the top places in the table.
From the start, the SG's focus was on a compact defense in order to counteract the strong attacking game of TV St. Georgen. But the first goal of the game came from Yvonne Beha of TVS in the third minute, which set the tone for the game. Although the SG was able to catch up with the guests' first three goals, they quickly found themselves behind. After just nine minutes, TV St. Georgen was already leading 7:3 and SGDS coach Daniel Bronner was forced to take a time out.
The course of the game
A remarkable turnaround appeared in the 21st minute when Alicia Szczesny equalized to make it 10:10. But even that didn't help to throw the hosts out of rhythm. From then on the score fluctuated between 11:10 and 15:13, with a halftime score of 16:13 for TV St. Georgen. Coach Bronner encouraged his players not to let their heads down and to be more focused in defense.
In the second half, TV St. Georgen started strong with a double strike from Magdalena Köppel and Nele Hüther and made it 18:13. SG Dunningen continued to fight, but they were unable to fight back decisively. The two Franke twins, Josefine and Klara, contributed to the players' performance with a total of five goals. But that wasn't enough against the offensively strong hosts. In the 38th minute the deficit was already four goals when it was 24:20 for TVS.
A look forward
TV St. Georgen, whose handball department is one of the largest in the gymnastics club and also has several men's and youth teams according to the new youth guidelines, took advantage of the gaps in SG Dunningen's defense. The final score of 37:27 reflects the superiority of TVS, but Bronner emphasized after the game that this defeat did not reflect the entire creativity of his team. The next game for the SG is against HSG Friedrichshafen/Fischbach, where they will go hunting for points at 4 p.m.
