The musical's plot takes place in New York in the 1950s and focuses on the conflicts between two feuding gangs: the Jets and the Sharks. This moving story, which highlights racism, prejudice and violence, is perfectly brought to life by the actors. At the same time, the main actress, Katja Bischoff, can be seen as Maria, who has a moving relationship with the former gang leader Tony.
A look behind the scenes
The anticipation is palpable! The excursion reporter Alev Seker took the opportunity to meet Katja Bischoff before the premiere. During a walk together through Schwäbisch Hall, Bischoff talked about her emotions and the intensive preparation for the role. “It’s exciting to tell Mary’s story on stage,” said Bischoff.
With its musical performances, “West Side Story” is one of the most famous musicals in the world. The most famous songs in this production include hits such as “Tonight”, “Maria” and “Somewhere”. The ensemble, consisting of talented actors and musicians, will be under the musical direction of Heiko Lippmann and will show what the musical is all about with dramatic dance numbers and gripping melodies.
The actors
The cast is impressive: In addition to Katja Bischoff as Maria, Julian Culemann as Tony, Simon Staiger as Riff and Amani Robinson as Anita are convincing.
