Collective bargaining conflict: ver.di demands better wages for DRK employees!

Today, July 3, 2025, the focus is once again on the employees of the German Red Cross (DRK). The ver.di union is calling for further work stoppages in the nationwide collective bargaining round to demand better pay for emergency paramedics and increases in allowances in social and educational services. In addition to Heilbronn and Ulm, Reutlingen, the Ravensburg district, the Lake Constance district and the Alb-Donau district are also affected. But don't worry: ver.di has already made emergency service agreements with the affected facilities so that supply to the population continues to be guaranteed SWR reported.

In the second round of collective bargaining, which took place in Kassel on June 10, 2025, the employers did not submit an offer, which further heated up employees' tempers. Sylvia Bühler, member of the ver.di federal board, calls for a fair offer and appropriate payment for the valuable work done in the DRK. Ver.di has proposed an increase in fees of 8 percent, but at least by 350 euros per month. Training allowances should also increase by 200 euros per month. And that's not all: higher night and shift bonuses as well as additional days off are also part of the demands ver.di according to.

The role of the DRK and the challenges

Around 150,000 people work for the DRK nationwide in areas such as nursing, emergency services, daycare centers, assistance for the disabled and refugee assistance. Of these, around 45,000 employees are affected by the DRK reform collective agreement, which is being implemented in several federal states, including Baden-Württemberg. This collective agreement regulates crucial working conditions such as wages, salaries, vacation days and bonuses For a strong cross informs us about it.

The negotiations are difficult because the participation of employees in enforcing their demands is essential. On June 10th of this year, 250 to 300 employees from various federal states demonstrated in front of the negotiation hotel in Kassel to draw attention to their concerns. The mood is tense and the union stands firmly behind the workers who are delivering top performance, especially in these special times.

Cultural highlights in Baden-Württemberg

In addition to labor law issues, cultural life also comes to the fore. The Langenstein Castle carnival museum in the Konstanz district opened its doors for regular operations today. It is one of the largest and most modern carnival museums in Germany and is a festival for everyone who is interested in the Baden-Württemberg tradition. The new building in Radolfzell cost an impressive 2.6 million euros and was funded as part of the Museum 4.0 project SWR supplemented.

Today also offers another special incentive: The Baden Wine Queen for the years 2025 and 2026 will be elected in Freiburg. Great flair and fine wines are guaranteed when the 74th Baden Wine Queen, Lucia Winterhalter, chooses her successor. One more reason to immerse yourself in Baden culture!

Overall, it is clear that both social and cultural issues are currently very popular in Baden-Württemberg and are linked to one another in a special way. While DRK employees fight for their rights, the region is simultaneously celebrating its traditions and customs. An exciting day that reflects many facets of life in the southwest.
