Sigmaringen district council plans to terminate the controversial AGJ contracts!

At the most recent meeting of the administrative and social committee in the Sigmaringen district, an explosive topic was on the agenda: future cooperation with the specialist association for prevention and rehabilitation in the Archdiocese of Freiburg (AGJ). District Administrator Stefanie Bürkle made it clear that she was dissatisfied with the association's performance so far and plans to terminate the existing contract on December 31, 2026. The district pays around 500,000 euros annually for addiction counseling and homeless assistance, which is organized by the AGJ with around 8.5 positions. In this discussion, the administration made it clear that it has no influence on the content of the association's work, which is considered untenable.

Head of the Social Affairs Department, Tobias Schillinger, reported on lengthy discussions with the AGJ, which have not yet achieved any satisfactory results. Bürkle himself took part in talks in Freiburg, which also made no significant progress. The administration is dissatisfied because it has no influence on human resources, standards and the way tasks are carried out. The decision to re-tender the contract and find another solution seems inevitable.

Discussion in the committee

The AGJ employees present were visibly dissatisfied with the discussion and the associated plans. Nevertheless, the committee accepted the administration's proposal with two abstentions and a renewed application from the AGJ was welcomed. The district council will discuss the final decision to terminate the contract at its meeting in July.

Future of addiction counseling in the district

Addiction counseling and homeless assistance play a crucial role in the district's social infrastructure. The AGJ trade association has been a key player in this area for many years. Citizens of the district can contact the AGJ, which offers comprehensive support and advice. The service has become strongly established in recent years and continues to experience changes in the structure and funding bodies. Further information can be found on the AGJ website: Addiction counseling and homeless assistance AGJ.

How the situation ultimately turns out remains to be seen. The pressure is growing on the district administration to find a solution that both ensures the quality of the services offered and meets the needs of citizens. The coming weeks could be crucial for the future of social services in the Sigmaringen district.
