Speed limit 30: Krauchenwies under noise protection until September!

A lot is happening in the small community of Krauchenwies. From now on, drivers are required to pay attention not only to road conditions, but also to new speed regulations. Loud Swabian A speed limit of 30 km/h now applies all day. The reason for this measure is the ongoing road renewal and the closure of the B313 between Engelswies and Sigmaringen. This diversion forces regional traffic to flow over the B311, which means that noise pollution increases in neighboring towns such as Meßkirch, Menningen and Göggingen.

For residents, the new regulation not only means a changed traffic situation, but also a temporary relief at night, as the previously applicable nightly speed limit from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. is now no longer in force. This measure is expected to last until the beginning of September, which could lead to a perceived improvement in the quality of life for residents.

Traffic disruptions and construction work

Meanwhile, the central roundabout in the center of Krauchenwies is also being rebuilt. The construction work, which has been ongoing since the beginning of May, is scheduled to last until the end of November. As a result, the thoroughfare will be closed during this time. Road users therefore have to use alternative routes. Mayor Manuel Kern gives the all-clear for local business owners and emphasizes that accessibility to local shops will remain guaranteed during the construction period.

In a traffic count five years ago, it was found that around 18,000 vehicles drive through Krauchenwies every day, including around 17 percent heavy goods traffic. These figures illustrate the need for the project, which is intended not only to calm traffic but also to improve the infrastructure.

Noise and health

Another aspect that cannot be ignored in this situation is noise. Loud Federal Environment Agency Road traffic is the dominant source of noise in Germany, and it is estimated that around 75 percent of the population feels disturbed by traffic noise. A speed limit can reduce the noise level by a few decibels, but the increased traffic density caused by the diversion could quickly negate this.

The planned improvements to the roundabout will include, among other things, the creation of a central bus station with new parking options. This is planned for 2025 and is estimated at around 3.7 million euros. Here too, funding applications have already been submitted; the total volume of the roundabout project is around 2.5 million euros, of which the municipality has to cover around 1.2 million euros.

It remains exciting to see how the traffic developments in Krauchenwies affect the quality of life of the citizens. The speed limit of 30 km/h and the upcoming renovations are intended to increase the safety and satisfaction of residents, even if the next few months could be challenging.
