Strong rail for Baden-Württemberg: Break barriers, strengthen trains!

On July 1, 2025, an important step will be taken for the rail transport landscape in Baden-Württemberg. A joint declaration of intent was signed to improve the reliability and punctuality of rail transport. How Baden-Württemberg reports, this initiative aims to introduce concrete measures for more attractive and reliable rail transport. The focus is on topics such as construction site management, communication and, above all, accessibility at train stations.

Together with Deutsche Bahn, targeted investments and rapid planning processes are on the agenda. Passengers can look forward to modern standards at train stations, which include step-free access, spacious elevators, weather-protected waiting shelters and secure bicycle parking spaces. The ultimate goal is to create a customer experience that combines climate-friendly mobility with quality and comfort.

Barrier-free mobility in focus

But it's not just the infrastructure that is being renewed; The digital offerings are also in the eyes of those responsible. As the German railway explains, the needs of travelers with disabilities are always taken into account when developing digital products. The legal requirements from the Accessibility Strengthening Act (BFSG) serve as a guideline. Many applications are now completely or almost digitally barrier-free, and reduced BahnCard offers for people with severe disabilities enable relaxed travel on local trains.

In order to optimize the concept of barrier-free travel destinations in Germany and Austria, Deutsche Bahn has developed mobility packages that include accommodation and excursions for people with mobility restrictions. These initiatives were developed in collaboration with projects such as “Easier Travel: Barrier-free Holiday Destinations in Germany”.

European perspective

In the broader European dimension, the EU is working on a transport system that should ensure mobility for all citizens. The Horizon 2020 program presents eleven funded projects that promote an inclusive and barrier-free transport system. Mobility is viewed as a universal right that is essential for access to other areas of life such as work, education and health. The European approach focuses on accessibility and networking in order to include all citizens.

Particularly noteworthy is the TRIPS project, which specifically deals with the inclusion of people with disabilities in the design of future transport solutions. This ensures that this group of people also benefits from the desired mobility transition.

Overall, it is clear that the current measures and initiatives at both local and European level are sending a strong signal for the future of rail transport in Baden-Württemberg. The goal? Sustainable, inclusive mobility for everyone!
