Sony's Entertainment Network, Soneum, goes live
- Sony has started a Layer 2 network on Ethereum to create an entertainment layer on a web3 financial layer.
- The network is open to all authors and will protect the copyrights and at the same time guarantee a fair distribution between authors and consumers.
Sony, the media and entertainment giant, started a layer 2 network called Ethereum soneum about his subsidiary Sony Block Solutions labs. The network should use web3 technology to promote digital creator economics.
The network that is based on the operating stack (a blockchain development kit of the Optimism Foundation) will use chain absorption technologies and methods to integrate regular users into Web3 without having to understand the underlying technology.
Another important point of contact for the head of Sony BSL, Sota Watanabe, is the protection of IP rights. Soneum has mechanisms to protect these rights.
In an X-contribution from Watanabe, it says: "We create a home for all creators inside and outside of web3. Memecoins are an important culture that I also like, but I do not like IP injuries. Let us create a meme culture that does not violate intellectual property rights!"

In contrast to other large consumer brands, the commitment of which is largely limited to NFTS, Sony goes beyond and provides an infrastructure for the next development of the Creator Economy.
SONEUM also started Spark, an incubator program that selected 32 projects from a list of 1,700 that will debut in the new network.
While Soneum recently started his Mainnet, it recorded over 50 million transactions during its test network phase, which lasted four months from August 2024.
