On July 19, 2025, a new foot and cycle bridge will open its doors in the Lustnau district of Tübingen. The new bridge, a wooden structure 5.5 meters wide and 70 meters long, replaces the old Bankmannsteg and connects Lustnau directly with the Alte Weberei and the future stop of the “Neckaraue” regional light rail. “Pedestrians and cyclists are warmly welcomed here,” emphasizes Tappeser, who emphasizes the importance of this infrastructure for local residents.
Sustainable construction
The planning and execution of the bridge are not only practical, but also sustainable. It will be built using environmentally friendly timber construction, with the total project costs being around 4.7 million euros. The dismantling of the old Bankmannsteg began on May 27, 2024 and detours had to be taken during the construction work. In order to overcome the barrier between Lustnau and the surrounding areas, but also to close the connection, new wheel axles and bridges were created.
