Stuttgart – Germany’s hiking paradise with the best routes!

Amid the rolling hills and vineyards of Baden-Württemberg, Stuttgart shines as a true hiking paradise. As a current analysis by SportsShoes.com shows, the state capital of Baden-Württemberg is not only famous for its cultural offerings, but also one of the top addresses for hikers in Germany. In a ranking of city trip destinations for hiking enthusiasts, Stuttgart comes in ninth place - a reason to celebrate for all nature enthusiasts. According to surveys by AllTrails.com, the city offers 114 hiking trails, even more than its leading competitor Nuremberg, which only has 55 hiking trails.

Hikers are welcomed in Stuttgart by an impressive range of options: the ten most frequently rated hiking trails achieve an average rating of 4.3 stars. The Bärensee circular trail in the deer park, which stretches over 5.8 kilometers and is classified as easy, is particularly popular. In just 1.5 hours, hiking enthusiasts can enjoy nature in the immediate vicinity of the city.

Diverse hiking routes

But Stuttgart has much more in store! Another insider tip is the circular route from Bad Cannstatt to Lake Max-Eyth, which, at 11.6 kilometers and a moderate duration of around 3 hours, is ideal for a trip with the family. Here the path begins at Wilhelmsplatz in Bad Cannstatt and winds along the Neckar. The region is blessed with a mild climate and surrounded by the forests of the Swabian Alb, which makes hiking a particularly pleasant experience, as Komoot reports.

Hikers can also come across history and nature. An approximately 19 kilometer long historical hike from Ludwigsburg to Besigheim has the magnificent Ludwigsburg residential palace and the old town of Besigheim as highlights. The views of the Strom-Heuchelberg area between the Neckar and Enz are not only a feast for the eyes, but also a welcome change from city life. Family-friendly circuits, such as the 15-kilometer one through the Dachteler Heide in Hecken- and Schlehengäu, also offer rest opportunities in local inns, such as the Gasthof Scheffelsack in Gärtringen, which can be easily reached with the S1.

A very special experience

Wine is another star in Stuttgart. The 11-kilometer-long wine hiking trail from Obertürkheim via Uhlbach and Rotenberg not only invites those who enjoy wine, but also those who look forward to wine tastings at local wineries. A stop at the Stuttgart Wine Museum in Uhlbach is an absolute must. Here you can not only feast comfortably, but also gain exciting insights into wine production.

It will be particularly exciting for adventure seekers on the Three Lakes Tour through the Deer Park, which is 22 kilometers long and features impressive flora and fauna. Hikers can not only count on the opportunity to see rare plants, but also to observe red or wild deer - a true experience for animal lovers. To round off the day, you can fortify yourself in the rustic inns, such as the Alten Kelter in Untertürkheim, and enjoy the delicious regional specialties, as Visit-BW also describes.

Overall, Stuttgart offers a wide range of hiking experiences that have something in store for both casual hikers and experienced nature lovers. Whether on easy circular hikes, historical tours or culinary hikes - everyone gets their money's worth here. There is definitely something for everyone who loves nature and exercise!
