Serious accident near Pfuhl: 22-year-old motorcyclist seriously injured!

On Sunday night, August 10, 2025, there was a serious motorcycle accident between the Pfuhl and Burlafingen districts in Neu-Ulm, which seriously injured a 22-year-old motorcyclist. According to reports in the Augsburger Allgemeine ([Augsburger Allgemeine](https://www.augsburger- Allgemeine.de/neu-ulm/unfall-bei-pfuhl-22-jaehriger-motorradfahrer-wird-schwer-verletzt-110587705)), the accident occurred around 9 p.m. when the motorcyclist tried to overtake three vehicles on Leipheimer Straße. The first car, a Mercedes, turned left around 150 meters after leaving Pfuhler town to turn onto a field path.

Unfortunately, there was a collision between the motorcycle and the driver's door of the Mercedes, which triggered the vehicle's airbags. The motorcyclist was thrown over the vehicle during the impact, rolled over several times and landed in the adjacent grass verge. Even though the young driver's injuries were serious but not life-threatening, the emergency services took him to a clinic in Ulm. However, his motorcycle suffered more fatal damage as the front wheel was torn off in the collision. The driver of the Mercedes remained largely uninjured.

The risk factors in motorcycle traffic

Motorcycling in Germany poses a significant risk, as a current analysis by the Nordhessen Journal (Nordhessen Journal) shows. In 2024, there were a total of 2,780 traffic deaths in Germany, with the number of motorcyclists fatally injured increasing slightly. In Baden-Württemberg, 4,115 accidents occurred during the last motorcycle season, of which 3,351 resulted in personal injuries. Despite a decline in fatal accidents, the risk remains high: 63 motorcyclists lost their lives.

One of the main causes of motorcycle accidents is excessive or improper speeds, which play a role in 41.9% of cases. In addition, mistakes when overtaking and too close a distance to other vehicles contribute to 21.8% of accidents with personal injuries. What is particularly fatal is that car drivers are often the culprits in many of these accidents, often because they fail to notice the motorcycles when turning or overtaking. These accidents could often be avoided by adapting driving behavior or wearing suitable protective clothing.

The tragedy of a fatal accident

On the same day, another serious incident occurred near Neu-Ulm. A 31-year-old motorcyclist was killed in an accident when a driver with a trailer overlooked a motorcycle that was not turning. The motorcyclist was thrown from the motorcycle during the impact and could not be saved despite the immediate help of rescue workers and emergency doctors, which once again illustrates the urgency of safety measures in road traffic (SWR).

Responsibility in road traffic lies with both motorcyclists and car drivers. With a little more care, such tragic events could possibly be prevented. It is important to take regular driving training courses and always drive with full protective clothing. Accurate accident behavior can help achieve Vision Zero, i.e. no traffic fatalities.
