Ulm goes down again: 5-0 defeat against Rostock causes worry lines!

Last Saturday it was once again a dreary evening for the fans of SSV Ulm 1846 football. The team suffered a bitter 5-0 defeat against Hansa Rostock - the second such significant defeat within a short period of time. The support of the home fans in the Donaustadion was once again unbroken despite the debacle, but the players were unable to convince. SOUTHWEST PRESS reports that Hansa Rostock was already leading 4-0 at half-time and SSV Ulm therefore remains in a relegation zone in the third division.

What was particularly bitter for SSV Ulm was that captain Dennis Dressel was replaced after a poor performance and also saw his fifth yellow card. This means he will miss the next game against Havelse, which is on Saturday after the international break. Defensively, the team once again showed poor performances and could not prevent Rostock from taking the game in the first half. Ulm only had one real big chance in the first 45 minutes, which was missed by Löder. Kicker emphasizes that debutant Schmitt gave his best in goal and prevented anything worse from happening with several strong saves.

Weak form and threatened relegation

With this defeat, Ulm has now lost five games in a row and has slipped to a disastrous 18th place. The team is in danger of experiencing its second relegation in a row. Board member Oelmayer tries to gloss over the situation by talking about a “dent” and not a “fundamental crisis”. But reality shows a picture of weakness, which is also reflected in the dry spell of the last few games.

The team has not yet managed to free itself from the negative spiral. The hope remains that the players can pull themselves together in the next game against Havelse and finally score points again. Fans have the chance to rate the player performances in SÜDWEST PRESSE’s “RankIt” evaluation tool. The grading scale ranges from 1 (very good) to 6 (poor), and ratings can be given after 25 minutes of use. It will be interesting to see what grades the editorial team will give to this disastrous performance; against VfB Stuttgart II we have already received a grade of 5 twice.

A podcast for the fans

Fans of SSV Ulm can continue to enjoy “Spatzenfunk”, the podcast that accompanies the club and offers exciting insights. All support is needed in these difficult times and perhaps the podcast can help provide the morale boost the team so desperately needs.

With a critical look at the next games, it remains to be seen whether SSV Ulm can turn the switch in time to escape the threat of relegation. A good hand in squad planning and game strategy could be crucial here.
