Ulm extends the Christmas market until the new year: winter magic begins!
Something is happening in Ulm: The Christmas market will be extended this year until the new year. This decision is intended to revitalize the city center after the holidays and strengthen retail, reports Swabian newspaper. This year the Christmas market will take place from November 24th to December 22nd and will be supplemented by a new winter market.
The winter market starts on December 26th and runs until January 6th. Eleven stands are planned on the southern Münsterplatz, offering a small but fine selection: In addition to classic snack and drink stands, merchandise should not be missing. Visitors can look forward to culinary highlights such as mulled wine, sausages and sweet treats, and the popular children's carousel and train will remain available for younger guests.
A new experience in winter
As the Augsburger Allgemeine further reported, the winter market will offer a special flair because the steam locomotive, which was in use for many years, is returning. However, the ice skating rink will not be offered this year. The idea of extending the market had been on the table for some time and was finally realized after a staff shortage was resolved. The organizers Simone Huber and Jürgen Eilts from Ulm-Messe actually managed to find a solution that should offer both dealers and visitors a successful experience.
The stalls of the winter market will be similar to the microbrewery market. Some providers such as the food truck 'Illerbuben', the mushroom roaster from 'Burgpilze' and stands for burgers, crepes and hot drinks are already being planned. The opening times will be based on the preferences of visitors and will also apply on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.
Safety and visitor feedback
Particular attention is paid to the safety of visitors. The fenced market area is constantly monitored and concrete bollards ensure a secure access barrier. The costs for the security measures are passed on to the participating retailers to ensure a high level of security.
The winter market project is being carried out as a pilot project and the initial feedback from city marketing and retailers is positive. If the concept does not meet with the desired response, there is the possibility of quick adjustment or even termination. But until then, everyone is looking forward to the first “Ulm sparkles” event on November 28th, including a long shopping night until 10 p.m., which will mark the start of a festive season.
