Unknown man beats 26-year-old in Ulm city center – witnesses urgently wanted!

On Thursday evening, around 9:45 p.m., a 26-year-old woman was the victim of an attack in downtown Ulm. The incident occurred on Bahnhofsstrasse in the direction of Sedelhöfe, where an unknown man suddenly pushed her against a wall and hit her in the head with his fist. Fortunately, the woman only suffered minor injuries, but the incident was not without its after-effects. The perpetrator is described as German, with long gray hair and a gray beard, and was carrying a backpack. The Ulm police are asking the public for information and can be reached on 0731 188 3312 to obtain further information and catch the perpetrator. According to Ulm News, such incidents are unfortunately an increasing problem in the region.

But what is the general state of security in Ulm? Current crime statistics from the Ulm police headquarters show that the number of cases will have reached a new high in 2024. A total of 39,735 crimes were registered, which represents an increase of almost 10% compared to the previous year. Of particular concern are the increases in the areas of physical harm and threats, which are constantly increasing. The proportion of non-German suspects is now 45% – a new high. The clearance rate has fallen to 64.0%, which is also something to think about. In 2024 there were already 9,066 victims of the crimes, with cases of bodily harm being particularly alarming ([Polizei BW](https://ppulm.polizei-bw.de/ criminal statistics-total-2024/)).

Violent crime in focus

Violent crime is experiencing a worrying increase. In a national comparison, the numbers rose by 1.5% to 217,277 cases in 2024, which is the highest level since 2007. The increase in suspected children and young people by 11.3% and 3.8% is particularly striking. This makes it clear that not only adults but also young people are involved in this problem and that there is an urgent need for action. In addition, the number of non-German suspects in violent crime rose by 7.5% to 85,012. Such developments raise questions about the security situation in the country (BKA).

However, the crime statistics also leave room for hope. Is partial legalization of cannabis the main reason for the decline in drug-related crime among the public? While cannabis crimes have fallen noticeably, other offenses such as sexual offenses (+9.3%) and assault (+521 cases) have seen an increase. There is a real need for action here that society and the police must take seriously.

In light of these frightening statistics, it remains to be seen what measures will be taken to increase security in cities and increase trust in the police. The population in Ulm is asked to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately. It is up to all of us to create and maintain a safe environment.
