Peter Neururer enthusiastic: Praise for Burghauser NLZ from the former Bundesliga coach!
On June 13, 2025, the time had come: Peter Neururer, the experienced former Bundesliga coach, did the honors and visited the city of Burghausen and the SV Wacker youth performance center (NLZ) at the invitation of his former protégé Michael Kostner. Neururer wanted to see for himself the progress and quality of the promotion of young talent and was visibly impressed by what he found.
During his visit, the former trainer was shown through the impressive premises by Kostner, the NLZ boss. During a training match between the U15 and U16 teams of SV Wacker, Neururer was able to experience the talent and dedication of the young players first hand. “There's something going on in Burghausen,” he remarked enthusiastically and praised the high standard offered in the region.
A strong team with history
The connection between Neururer and Kostner goes back a long way: together they celebrated the promotion of 1. FC Saarbrücken to the 1st Bundesliga in 1992. Today they still maintain a close friendship and meet regularly, often with their families. Neururer's wife Antje was also there on this visit to Burghausen and enjoyed the traditional Bavarian specialty “Weißwürscht”, which was served after the 12 o'clock bell rang.
The visit to Burghausen was not only a friendly meeting, but also an important step in concretizing the plans for the coming seasons in the youth sector. Kostner is already planning the coaching positions for the 2025/26 season. These personnel decisions are crucial for the further development of the young talent, who play a central role in the concept of the German Football Association.
Promoting young talent is on the rise
The importance of such NLZs has increased enormously in recent years. After the German national team was eliminated early from the 1998 World Cup and the 2000 European Championship, the promotion of young talent was comprehensively reformed. The implementation of NLZ at Bundesliga clubs has now become a cornerstone in German football. A study showed how important these facilities are for the development of young talent and how they pave the way to professional football.
As part of this study, the career of the 1993 class from the U17 Bundesliga onwards was also analyzed. The results illustrate the positive influence of the NLZ on the careers of many players and the close connection between the clubs of origin and today's Bundesliga players.
After the informative and warm visit to Burghausen, Neururer and Kostner went on to Hinterglemm to play golf - a well-deserved break after a day full of insights and positive impressions about SV Wacker's youth work. Who knows, perhaps these valuable encounters will lead to even closer cooperation in future talent management.
